I personally don't think ads are a horrible thing to put on a personal website if they're discreet and there's only one. Sponsored posts aren't the worst thing either, if it's subtle. Sometimes you would recommend the site/product anyway even if I didn't get paid for it so might as well make a couple dollars. It’s not selling out.
