As A Star

Domain

The domain name, “As A Star”, was thought up by my son Corey. Well, indirectly. See, on mother’s day in 2006 he made a little book for me. One of the pages in the book said “My mom is as pretty as ____” and in that blank he put “a star.” I was really moved by that and I thought it was so sweet. On Sept 24, my birthday, I registered this domain name as a personal domain from E-Starr Domains. I also host this domain on E-Starr‘s Orbis server.

The current “theme” that you see was put up on Valentine’s Day. It was around Valentine’s so I guess it pretty much inspired it, but it wasn’t meant to be a Valentine’s theme (in which case I can leave it up as long as I want). The original theme is called “wrastle” and was created by this awesome designer. I love his themes and the way they’re so easy to personalize.

The entire website is made with WordPress. It helps me be lazy, I guess, with it’s little WYSIWYG editor and all. I’ve had so many sites, and I have a few others right now, I just wanted something easy and low maintenance. And then when I change themes it will be so easy because they’re all tied in.

I currently use 1 plugin called Role Manager so I can allow only certain people to view private blogs. This helps me keep all my stuff in one place, but keep people I don’t know from seeing potentially embarrassing or otherwise sensetive topics. I am looking for other new plugins but since this version of WordPress is so new, I probably won’t be coming up with many others very soon. That’s another thing I love about wordpress, there’s a huge community behind it.

The heart image is a slightly modified version of one I bought from iStockPhoto for $1. I took out some vine looking things and some little hearts and added the words and diagnal lines. I think it came out really great. And the colors match so closely I didn’t have to change anything else in the theme.
